Beatriz shares her story as the daughter of a coal miner. Growing up in the Purgatory River Valley west of Trinidad, she relates what day-to-day life was like in the small mining communities there, and how her father worked in the coal mines and as a cowpuncher 7.3min.
These clips are from longer interviews filmed and edited by Alan Bucknam of Notchcode Creative. The interviews took place in Trinidad, Colorado in August 2019 and are part of a joint project led by: The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety’s Inactive Mine Reclamation program to document the oral histories of people who worked in Colorado’s now-abandoned mines (contact person, Lisa Thompson; see also their interviews from ); Yolanda Romero, Director of the Southern Colorado Coal Miners Museum in Trinidad, who selected the people to be interviewed, handled the local logistics, and conducted the actual interviews; With assistance provided by the University of Colorado Boulder’s Latino History Project.
